It has been and it is a strange time for those who enjoy working from the office since working from home is the new normal. But how do you keep motivated? Here are a several ways to improve you productivity and get the most out of your workday!

1. Quick ways to get focused and motivated

Work smarter, not harder! Sounds good? Researchers have discovered certain quick ways to be more focused and motivated. The first step is to have a fresh start, anytime, anywhere. So don’t wait for January 1, but start right now and enjoy your burst of energy. How it works? Simple: fresh starts encourage us by disconnecting us from past failures and by promoting a big-picture view. And when you’ve marked you fresh start, eat some brain-loving food and feel your motivation increase by the release of dopamine. Other quick ways to work on your motivation: strike a high-power pose because it changes the way you are and feel, look at the color green since it provides a boost of motivation and triggers creativity and at least write a informal contract to help you achieve your goals – donate to charity if you don’t succeed.

2. Don’t binge on caffeine, drink water and have breakfast as first

Sometimes the answer is simple as that: don’t binge on caffeine, drink water and have breakfast as first. So have breakfast and drink plenty of water during the day to stay hydrated, concentrated and to maintain your motivation. Are you a master in forgetting to drink water? Have your bottle of water next to your desk and sip all day! Back to breakfast: gives you fuel to stay focused on your work instead of your stomach. And yes, the trick is to eat brain-loving food instead of sugary foods which burn off energy very quickly.

3. Just start with one task – you’ll be surprised how easy it is

Let’s face it: your worst enemy is yourself! Shocked? Don’t be, because the most easy way to loose your motivation is due to your own mind and the things you (don’t) tell yourself. Especially when you have a task on your to do-list you don’t feel like doing, because you’ve told yourself it’s ‘Too complicated’, ‘I’m not suitable for this’ and ‘Where do I even start?’. The consequence? You keep pushing it forward and your motivation goes downhill. Fun fact: once you start it isn’t even that kind of a big deal. The conclusion? The things you tell yourself and make up in your mind are bigger than in real life. Therefore just start with one task and you’ll be surprised how easy it is. And staying motivated is also about taking mini breaks to ease your body and reboot your brain. So step away from your laptop, lean back and look around. Get up, go for a walk and stretch. And while doing that, don’t forget to take deep breaths and remind yourself that with one step at a time you’ll eventually move mountains!
